Reflex Photonics to Begin Sampling Latest Optical Media Converter Products

Four channel, bi-directional “pig tailed” module, active optical cable mark newest additions to company’s InterBOARD® product line

Mountain View, Calif. (June 10, 2008) - Reflex Photonics, an advanced developer of extreme high-speed optical connectivity solutions for semiconductor packaging and data transfer applications, today announced the initial Optical Media Converter (OMC) offerings to its InterBOARD® line of parallel optical modules and active optical cables (AOC) for high-density interconnections between printed circuit boards and systems. The new OMC products will begin sampling to select customers in 3Q 2008.

Designed for very short reach applications (VSR) of up to 300m, the four-port, hot-pluggable OMC modules and AOCs provide full-duplex, four-channel electrical connectivity using multimode optical fiber. The first products available will operate at an aggregate bandwidth of up to 12.5 Gbps (4 channels at 3.125 Gbps for XAUI support). The two OMC units, which are specially designed to support high-performance computing (HPC), telecommunications and data communications equipment, offer direct support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet CX4, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand™. Upcoming versions will feature channel speeds of up to 10.0 Gbps. By using media detection circuitry at the host board’s connector, one can swap between the OMC and standard electrical cabling, offering ultimate flexibility at no additional cost.
